GOCA offers PCQI training course for the agro-food sector

GOCA Consulting has given the training course for Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) at the facilities of Extenda. It has been an opportunity for the agri-food sector to become familiar with the US regulations of the FDA / FSMA. This course helps companies meet the PCQI training requirements under FSMA.

A total of 17 Andalusian companies have attended the PCQI training consistent with the standardized curriculum recognized by the FDA and have shared knowledge and experiences through a participatory methodology. It has been a fulfilling experience for all attendees.

FSVP (Foreign Supplier Verification Programmes) FSPCA Course held in Almería

On the 16^th and 17^th of October, Goca Consulting taught the Foreign Suppliers Verification Programmes (FSVP) Course at Extenda’s facilities in Almería. The training was led by José Luis Gómez Carrasco, our technical director and FSPCA Lead Instructor, and ten agri-food companies participated. This FSVP course is of special interest for US importers as well as for exporting companies, since they will have comply with FSMA-related import requirements affecting their importers in the USA.

FSMA requires that exporters and importers of food or food ingredients perform certain activities to verify that foods imported into the United States comply with applicable food safety standards.

In Andalusia we are fortunate for many reasons, particularly for our climate and our land. These two factors make us one of the most important fresh produce industries worldwide and we export more than 50% of our production beyond our borders. The second destination of our fresh products after the European Union is the United States, a market that has gained strategic importance for Andalusian companies in recent years due to the interesting commercial opportunities it offers. Since the publication of the new Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the regulatory framework of the FDA has undergone notable changes that particularly affect all those companies that produce, process, package and/or store food products for human consumption in the United States.

Technical workshop: Introduction to FSMA (Seville)

On the 18^th September, we organized a technical workshop on the Food Safety Modernisation Law (FSMA) in Seville in partnership with Extenda. The session was led by our technical director José Luis Gómez Carrasco, as part of our efforts to support the Andalusian agri-food sector within the framework of a training cycle that covers key regulations affecting fresh produce (PSA), processed products (PCQI) and foreign supplier verification programmes (FSVP). Since more than 50% of Andalusian exports are shipped to the US, these workshops provide excellent opportunities for companies that already export or wish to export products to the US in the near future to come together and discuss their concerns.

Conference: FSMA: PSA Regulation and the US agri-food market

Several agri-food companies joined a technical session on various aspects of the FDA’s new food safety normative framework organised by the Consejería de Economía y Conocimiento, through its agency Extenda- Agencia Andaluza de Promoción Exterior in Sevilla. The session was available via streaming.

The conference was led by José Luis Gómez Carrasco from GOCA Consulting Services, microbiologist, Food Safety Consultant and Produce Safety Alliance Lead Instructor.

A total of 24 agri-food companies learned about FDA’s new labelling requirements during the course of a technical workshop organized by the Consejería de Economía y Conocimiento, through its agency Extenda-Agencia Andaluza de Promoción Exterior, in Sevilla.

The session was led by Itzíar Gómez Carrasco, from GOCA Consulting Services, consultant in International Development with experience working as researcher and certificates in HACCP (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points), GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), GAPs (Good Agricultural Practices) and Preventive Controls for Human Food-PCQI (FSMA) by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA).
